Frequently Asked Questions
Initial consultation, diagnostics, and procedures
The following information will help you prepare for your appointment with Dr. Kamp.
First appointment
Which health insurance does Dr. Kamp work with?
Dr. Kamp works exclusively with Mutua General de Catalunya. All other treatments are billed as private services.
What are the payment terms?
Invoices follow the German GOÄ fee schedule, available in three languages (DE/EN/ES). Payment is due on-site after your appointment. We accept credit, Visa, debit and Apple Pay. American Express is not accepted. Cash up to €1,000.
How do I book an appointment?
Preferably online (once available) or by email, alternatively by phone. Please provide name, date of birth if applicable, reason for visit and preferred times. We speak German, English and Spanish.
How much time should I allow?
The duration depends on the scope of the examinations. Please ask about the expected duration when booking.
How much does an examination or check-up cost?
As costs vary, please send a brief email describing the desired services and we will provide a transparent cost overview.
May I bring a urine sample?
Yes – please use only a sterile urine container (pharmacy or our practice). Samples in other containers will not be accepted.
When and why come with a full bladder?
For certain ultrasound examinations the bladder and prostate are better assessed when full; a urine sample may also be needed. Please always arrive with a full bladder. If you urgently need the toilet just before your appointment, inform reception first.
When are blood draws carried out?
Routinely Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday between 9 and 11 am. Hormone levels should be measured before 11 am.
Do I need to fast before a blood draw?
This depends on the tests requested. We will inform you at booking. When in doubt, please come fasting.
Cystoscopy
What do I need to know before a cystoscopy?
No special preparation, no fasting needed. With sedation: do not drive – arrange a lift or taxi. You will receive an email to confirm your appointment (urology@palma-clinic.com).
How long does a cystoscopy take?
With sedation approximately 1 hour total (incl. preparation and recovery), without sedation slightly less. The procedure itself takes about 20 minutes.
What is sedation?
Calming medication that promotes relaxation and reduces anxiety. Every patient responds differently – some remain awake and relaxed, others fall into a deep sleep. The procedure is perceived significantly less consciously.
What should I do after the procedure?
Arrange to be collected from the practice. Drink plenty of water to flush the bladder. Temporary burning when urinating is normal. Take pain relief if needed (e.g. ibuprofen).
IPSS questionnaire
What is the IPSS questionnaire and why fill it in?
The IPSS (International Prostate Symptom Score) is a standardised tool to assess lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) such as urgency, nocturia or weak stream – regardless of gender or prostate.
